Project Details:
We manufactured and erected 1400 tonnes of structural steelwork for the redevelopment of this town centre. MacDonagh Junction is the modern new city quarter in Kilkenny, combining high quality shopping, residential apartments, offices and leisure amenities.
On a restricted site, it is nested between a train station, a listed building and a working ESB yard which brought challenges to this redevelopment project. Another challenge was that the tapered truss element of the mall ran all along the wall of a listed stone work building. No attachment could be made to the listed building itself, however, it had to fit within 20mm of the building.
This structural steel, floor decking and shear stud package were all completed on programme. This project was a huge success and the new city quarter has attracted top Irish and international retailers to Kilkenny City.
